F1 in Schools Technology Challenge: 2015-16

With the Eastern and Western Regional Finals all wrapped up, we would like to congratulate the 5 junior teams and 15 senior teams who earned their spot in the National Finals of F1 in Schools 2016. The Finals will take place on Thursday, 28 April, from 9am to 4.30pm in the RDS as part of the Tech Week 2016 Showcase – Ireland’s national festival of technology.

With the event just a few short weeks away, the teams are already busy preparing their project for this next important test.

Work hard, everyone! It will definitely pay off.

Judging will be in the same four categories as the Regional competition:

  • Stands
  • Verbal Presentation
  • Engineering and
  • Racing

Although the format is similar, the standard expected from our teams, their competitive spirit and their level of commitment will be a lot higher.

The team or teams who are successful will earn the ultimate prize: a chance to compete in the F1 in Schools World Finals in Austin, Texas, this autumn.

Ireland has already had massive success in this international competition.

At last year’s World Finals. AIB Racing, from St. Muredach’s College, Ballina, placed third on the podium, won a Best Pit Display award and also had Aaron Hannon, the team manager, accepted into the Randstead Williams Engineering Academy for budding engineers. Verus Racing, from St. Attracta’s Community School, Tubbercurry, brought home an award for Best Use of Social Media.

We would like to wish all of the teams competing the very best of luck. See you on April 28th.

If you would like to attend the National Finals to cheer on your team, please register in advance to obtain your entry badge on the day.
